Summer has escaped back into the misty oasis of memory and most people I know are again focusing on getting back into a solid routine. I’ve had an eventful and enjoyable summer and there’s more to come:

• I kicked off the season with a retreat in Emerald Lake, British Columbia, that was organized by one of my business mentors, Daniel Gutierrez. Daniel is an international consultant, author and prosperity coach who teaches that the secret to success in any aspect of your life is to know yourself and where you fit in to the Divine scheme of things. Twenty people from across North America participated in the three-day retreat and it was remarkable.
• As a follow-up to the BC retreat, Daniel challenged participants to take part in a 40-day telephone coaching program that would take the principles we’d learned and apply them to a massive personal or professional goal. As a participant in that project I generated more than twice as much revenue as my previous monthly record. It was intense.
• Just as I finished the 40-day program I received an unexpected phone call from my publisher, Michael Davie at Manor House Publishing. Michael had decided to publish a book of my short stories and creative non-fiction pieces but he needed more content: in very short order I had to write two new short stories and both an introductory chapter for the book and a conclusion; I also completed an essay on my Emerald Lake experience for the new book. • Another big project this summer was the completion of my Master’s Degree in English Literature and Writing. I was honored to receive a scholarship last year from the Intercultural Open University Foundation (IOUF), an educational organization focused on mentoring social change agents to their MA and PhD degrees. The IOUF is based in Granada, Spain, and Arden, Delaware, and it is a great honour to now count myself one of their graduates. I’ll have more about the IOUF in a future post as well.
• I began bringing one more dream into my reality this summer as I took my first bold steps towards getting my pilot’s licence again. I began flying when I was in my early 20s and although I did obtain my licence and earn my wings, I let my qualifications lapse when life took the first of numerous detours. After 30 years I felt it was time to get back in the sky and I’ve fulfilled all requirements for having my licence reinstated. I will be back in ground school this fall and I’ll be receiving instruction from John Maxwell, Chief Flight Instructor at Golden Horseshoe Aviation, out at the Hamilton Airport.
