You Started Your Book. Now What?
I stared at the blank page in front of me and took a deep breath. So far I had avoided working on my book on this particular day by unloading the dishwasher, throwing in a load of laundry, making a third cup of coffee and checking my emails twice times. I was on the verge of also calling my mother, which I knew would end the so-called “writing session” I had booked for the morning. For some reason I wasn’t settling in to the writing at all, and although most people working on books of their own can sympathize with what I was experiencing, I was frustrated and very aware of how quickly time was slipping away.
Now working as a book coach and editor I hear similar stories from my clients all the time. We have the best of intentions, but often other Life “priorities” get in the way of our commitment to our books…and to our futures selves as authors. It breaks my heart when someone who I know has it in them to write a powerful and empowering legacy book gets stalled at the station. Someone asked me the other day what I mean by “Legacy Book.”
Great question!
To me a Legacy book is a book that summarizes your experiences, and the wisdom that has grown out of them, and harnesses them to the service of other people. It is a quality book that shifts paradigms, moves hearts, expands understanding and inspires action. It is thoughtful and compassionate, and it helps us all interpret what is happening to us in this marvellous experience of being human.
Your book can’t do that if it doesn’t get finished.
To assist with that effervescent project, I’ve put together a six month mentoring program called the Awakening Author Book Writing Mentorship Program. It’s designed for people who are firm in their determination to write their book and who know it’s time to get it out in the world where it can do some good. It’s designed to help you step up and step into the Author aspect of who you have it in you to be, even though you might not be too sure about that part yet.
And it will walk you step-by-step through the process of getting your book written, while respecting the fact that this is a co-creation with forces we are only just beginning to understand.
A key aspect of the program is a 1:1 experience with me that will get your book structure in place so you have a roadmap in front of you every time you sit down to write. It will also help you develop a set of timelines for writing, editing, and publishing your book. And you will create a system for writing your book and a process for fitting it into your life so you can be who you need to be for yourself and the people who matter to you.
More than anything this program is designed to cheer you on as you navigate the complex process of writing your book. Are you ready to unleash ever greater possibilities for yourself as an author? Join us! The program starts August 19th and you can find out more about it here: bookwritingmentorship.com
